The Joy of Cheese Comes to Premier Cru

The Joy of Cheese Goes Uptown!

As part of the new slate of Joy of Cheese autumn events, we are pleased to announce a series of cheese and wine pairings at Premier Cru, the prestigious wine shop at 1163 Madison Avenu (between 85th and 86th). Our series will consist of three Wednesday evening tastings, September 21, October 19th and November 9th. The events will begin at 7pm; tickets are $45 and available via Premier Cru, 212-534-6709.

Each event will involve six pairings of cheese and wine with a central focus. In September we will present the New, New World Classics in cheese and Premier Cru owner Michael Eigen will chose six wines to pair with them. This tasting will highlight the increasing array of extraordinary cheese being made in American, Canada, and perhaps Australia.

Our October event, The Best Gruyere Ever and Five Other Cornerstone Cheeses, will focus attention on the work of leading European affineurs (masters at aging cheese) and the difference they make in familiar cheeses like Gruyere, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Stilton and others; for those unfamiliar with the work of Rolf Beeler, Marcel Petite, Neal’s Yard and others, it will be like having these cheeses for the first time again. We will sample and discuss six cheeses and six wines again chosen by Premier Cru owner Michael Eigen.

Our November event, Great Cheeses for Holiday Entertaining, is nearly self explanatory. We will choose six cheeses that are perfect for the seasonal gatherings and Eigen will choose six wines to pair with them.

Again, each event starts at 7pm; for tickets call Premier Cru, 212-534-6709

About jmartin437

I've worked in and around the world of high end cheese for 27 years. I've been everything from a department manager who hired and fired and trained staffs to a weekend warrior who shows up ties on an apron the middle of a rush and talks to customers and cleans up the place. I enjoy it all, and I especially like my current situation conducting informal seminars about cheese at area bars and in class at the 92nd St. Y. The current schedule is always up at In addition I conduct private events that are perfect to lead off birthday parties for foodies and sommeliers and also they make great entertainment for corporate team building events and associates meetings at law firms. In addition, I've been a freelance journalist for 27 years. Currently my profiles of leading musicians and filmmakers appear in the Wall Street Journal and I also wrote about sports for the Root, and for five loooong years, which included the entirety of the Isiah Thomas Knicks era, I wrote about the NBA for the New York Sun. I enjoyed writing about basketball so much that I now do it here at rotations for free.
