Fromage of the Day, 10.21.11: Weininger’s.  Crumbly, tangy and lean, this hard goat’s milk cheese was made in upstate New York in the ’80s and early ’90s; I suspect that it’s production ceased long ago, but the new British goat cheese from Somerset, Old Ford, is a worthy successor to it.  It paired well with an Auslese Riesling, a New Amsterdam Ale, or a sweet cider.  If it was a an Albert Ayler tune, it would be “Ghosts” sprawling and sweet.   These are The Joy of Cheese October Events; a featured event is a cheese and Belgian beer pairing session at Brooklyn Beer Merchants, October 26.  We also do private cheese events as well; they start at $300 for a group of 12.  Contact me at for more information.
